AI explained
What does recent US survey reveal about AI usage and trust?
A survey of nearly 1,400 Americans shows that while AI use is increasing, trust in the technology remains low. Most respondents rarely trust AI, despite using it mainly for information gathering. Concerns include job loss and opposition to AI data centers.
- Summary: 76% of Americans rarely or only sometimes trust AI, but AI usage has risen with only 27% never using it.
- Why it matters: The gap between growing AI adoption and low trust highlights challenges for AI development and acceptance.
- Key point: Most Americans are skeptical about AI’s impact, fearing harm, job loss, and environmental effects from AI infrastructure.

Quinnipiac Survey Reveals Trust Levels in AI Tools
The survey, which included nearly 1,400 Americans, shows that 76% of respondents rarely or only sometimes trust AI. Only 21% say they trust the technology most of the time.
At the same time, the use of AI tools is increasing. Just 27% say they have never used such solutions, down from 33% in April 2025. According to Professor Chetan Jaiswal at Quinnipiac, this illustrates a clear contradiction between usage and trust.
AI is especially used for information gathering, with 51% of respondents reporting they use the technology for this purpose. Yet trust in the results remains low.
The survey also shows that 80% of Americans are concerned about AI. Millennials and baby boomers are among the most skeptical groups. Only 6% say they are very enthusiastic about the technology, while 55% believe AI will do more harm than good in everyday life.
Opposition extends to physical infrastructure as well. Sixty-five percent of respondents oppose building AI data centers in their communities, mainly due to concerns about electricity consumption and water resources.
At the same time, 70% believe AI development will reduce job opportunities. This coincides with a 35% drop in job openings for recent graduates since 2023.
Implications for the U.S. Market
AIny brief assessment: The results highlight a clear challenge for the AI industry: technology adoption is outpacing trust-building. For U.S. companies and developers, this means transparency and clear communication are critical. Without increased trust, the skepticism currently shaping the American market could also influence AI development and acceptance across other regions.
